Nicholas Temperley holds a Ph.D from Cambridge University, and is now a professor of music emeritus at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is the author of The Music of the English Parish Church, Fuging Tunes in the Eighteenth Century (with Charles G. Manns), and Haydn: 'The Creation', and editor of The Blackwell History of Music in Britain (Vol. 5: The Romantic Age) and The London Pianoforte School. He is also the general editor of Oxford Studies in British Church Music and a member of the editorial boards of American Music and 19th-Century Music.

Charles G. Manns is a contributor and editorial advisor to The Hymnal 1982 Companion, and is now on the staff of Illinois State University.

Joseph Herl is music director of St. John's Lutheran Church in Champaign, Illinois and a doctoral candidate in musicology at the University of Illinois. He is coeditor of the Hymnal Supplement 98 Handbook (St. Louis: Concordia, 1998), and his organ and choral music are published by Concordia and Oxford University Press.
